Hello everybody and welcome back to Navigating Joy Together. Today I'm speaking with Belinda Hearn. breakthrough barriers and transform their lives. Belinda believes that everyone has the potential for growth and healing, and her mission is to provide practical tools to show women how to use their own body to heal itself. Through a blend of evidence-based, heart-centered practices, she inspires clarity, growth, and lasting change in those she works with. Finding joy in becoming your best self doesn't have to be scary, complicated, or take years. You have everything you need already within you.

You might just need someone to show you how to access it. I hope you enjoy this conversation. It was very enlightening and here we go. Belinda, thank you so much for being here on Navigating Joy together. I'm so excited to talk with you and I'm really excited because you are on the other side of the world right now and it's nighttime for me and daytime for you and I think a different day even. But thank you so much for being here. Thank you for having me. Yep.
02:08
I'm really excited to have a chat and see where this leads us. Yes, me too. Well, let's just get into it. And why don't you tell us just a little bit about yourself and then what you do. So I am a women's empowerment and tapping coach. And basically what that means is I help women understand themselves a little bit more deeply to regulate their nervous system, find emotional balance. And then I use tapping to help them kind of
02:37
overcome any barriers or blocks that they feel like keeping them stuck in love. That sounds incredible. And do you find that it will get more into it deeper, but just do you find that it does make a difference? Yeah, totally. That's why I'm doing it. I was a coach for a while before and there was I kind of I kept looking until I found something because I was looking for something.
03:05
that I could use to support my clients that would get them results in spite of themselves. That was kind of the litmus test. If this is going to help them without relying on them doing some kind of homework or whatever, then that's what I'm looking for and the tapping is definitely what ticked that box for me.
03:28
That's awesome. I know just a teeny bit about tapping. I think I've tried it once and obviously I haven't stuck with it. So I look forward to learning more about it from you and how it's helped. So thank you for sharing that. When we initially connected, you mentioned that you were on your own healing journey from PND, anxiety and burnout and you were heading towards joy. And I would love it if you wouldn't mind just sharing that journey with us and
03:54
How that started, how did you realize you needed to make a change and what you did to get yourself into more joy? Yeah, totally. So I think it was a bit of a classic story of becoming a mother and that being a lot and struggling with postnatal depression. And I really, I got to a point where I was just such an emotional wreck. I felt like I was a shell of my former self.
04:25
where I used to be all confident and outgoing and stuff like that, then after having my second daughter, it's like I couldn't keep up with myself. I couldn't keep up with anything really. And I found myself crying all the time and my anxiety was through the roof. And yeah, I wasn't eating properly, I was sleeping properly, which you know, the sleeping parts to be expected with a newborn. But it kind of went beyond that.
04:54
And yeah, I got to a point, I got to a breaking point where I couldn't go on like that. And so I decided to stand up and fight for myself. And I think it was that decision that really was the starting point. It wasn't when I started finding the tools to help myself. It was really when I made the decision that this is not going to be the end of me. This is not going to be my story.
05:21
And that I'm going to find myself even though I have no idea where to start. Yeah. And then from there, I tried all the things I tried therapy, medication, exercise, self care, setting boundaries. I tried all the classic stuff that the self help and the blogs and the, all the things tell you to try. I tried all of that.
05:49
But it took me a really, really long time, like years to find what was going to give me the biggest breakthrough. And I think that really came from understanding my nervous system and what was going on inside of me. Obviously, other things that I did, you know, having time for myself and self care and having boundaries and asking for help and stuff like that, that all helped, like little bit by little bit by little bit. And it all...
06:17
built and added on each other. But the real breakthrough is really the nervous system stuff, learning to understand myself and then be able to regulate my emotions a bit better. That's so interesting. I want to backtrack a little bit. So when you were at your breaking point, how did you really discover that yourself? Cause I feel like sometimes when one person is in that situation, regardless of what it is, but just kind of at that low.
06:46
It's really hard to recognize that, right? To be like, oh my gosh, this is what's happening and I'm done. I, you know, I'm not going to do this anymore. And I'm just curious just for other people who might have experienced something similar or just in that low, like how did you really recognize that yourself, you know, when you're already in that breaking point in that low, how did you really know you need to just make that shift? I think I recognized it because I didn't recognize myself. And.
07:15
Yeah, I was the furthest thing from how I felt before, and I didn't recognize this teary mess that was looking back at me in the mirror. And when I kind of saw myself through other people's eyes, also, the way my husband would look at me, or the way friends would look at me, and it's like they could see that there was something wrong. And I thought I was putting on a brave face. I tried my best.
07:42
because I think there's this culture of, you know, suck it up and you've got to be strong and keep it together and all that stuff. So I tried that but it obviously didn't work because I needed some support and I needed a few things for myself. But first of all, I recognized that I didn't recognize myself. And then it took me a little while to accept that there was actually something wrong.
08:12
and I needed help because I couldn't do it alone. Yeah, I think that acceptance piece would be tough. I definitely think it would take time to have to recognize that and then accept and then be ready to make the shift and the change. Right. Okay, so going back to the nervous system, what did you start?
08:35
putting into place to help balance that? Or what did you start researching and learning? And what did you notice it start doing for you? Look, my journey has been a little bit strange and it's a bit of a running joke between me and my husband because I'd come across something and I would sign up. Hey babe, I'm doing this new course or certification or workshop or whatever. And he'd be like, yeah, okay, cool. What's it about? Yeah, I'm not sure.
09:03
I just, I just really felt like to do it. And then I'd get the classic kind of like, I roll of, oh, here we go again. And so I, there was an ad, you know, Facebook algorithm is greater targeting people. And, um, an ad came up and I was like, yep, I want to do that. And I trained as a nervous system coach. I thought a lot of my clients were struggling with anxiety and stuff like that. I had.
09:33
point, I wasn't struggling in the same way as I used to be, but I had to do a lot of stuff to be okay. So I kind of made a bit of a full time job out of my own wellbeing, which was overwhelming in itself. Anyway, so I wasn't struggling, but I recognized that a lot of my clients needed help, but I needed to be able to help them in a way that wasn't reliant on
10:01
doing the homework or doing the daily practice, whatever, because not everyone was as keen to make such a meal of it as I was, which is fair enough, because it wasn't actually sustainable. So I did this course and it helped me understand what I had gone through. It's like I'd be learning and I was like, yes, that happened to me. I never understood. Oh, okay, this is an actual thing. And it's totally normal. And it's...
10:30
not because I'm weak or broken or anything like that, it's actually physiological and it's just my body doing what it's meant to do. Oh okay and that helped with a lot of compassion and acceptance which I mean those things in itself are really a big deal. But so yeah I learnt about it um on like a whole course. The basics that really helped me was
10:59
Having a foundation, A, understanding it, what my nervous system is, what it does, what's the purpose of it, how does it affect me? Because your nervous system really does affect the way you feel, which cascades into everything you think, do, feel, behave, say. So it affects everything. And yeah, understanding that and how it worked was...
11:28
big deal and then focusing on the foundational stuff that would support me in finding balance in my nervous system. So really practical things like prioritizing sleep and rest, getting a balanced diet of fresh whole colorful food, making sure I was drinking enough water, and having fun, like fun and pleasure and joy and connection and playfulness.
11:58
That's all really important too. It's one of our basic needs, but we can overlook it because we're always trying to be productive or efficient or effective or whatever. So we don't make that important on our to-do list. And then also exercise. So because I understood the nervous system and how that was affecting everything, every aspect of my life, I then understood, okay, now I need to actually prioritize these really basic things.
12:27
because if I don't, I'm basically setting myself up for failure.
12:35
Okay. So as you were starting this journey, how could you tell that you were then moving towards joy? What was life starting to be like? How were you feeling internally? Like just what were some of those internal shifts and things you were noticing that really were creating more joy for you? Yeah. So I think this is where the EFT, the tapping really came in because before that point, I had learned a lot of things.
13:04
and it was really intellectual. I had an understanding of stuff and things made sense. And I was able to bring myself out of where I was with that depression and anxiety and stuff like that and into a more balanced space, right? But then I still had stuff like self-sabotage and triggers, old triggers, like one of the really common ones, or that happened a lot because I've got three young kids, is high noise levels.
13:34
that would really set me off. So I still had a lot of these triggers and stuff, even though I was in a better space, even though I was able to help other people, I didn't feel like I'd really got the breakthrough that I wanted. I was still struggling in other aspects. And I had found tapping a few years ago, and I think I did it like a lot of people do it, where it's just kind of like, oh, I'll tap along with the video and whatever. And yeah, it kind of helped me to feel a bit more calm, but I never give it really any more thought than that.
14:04
and I did a deeper session with someone and I had this huge breakthrough. Like in the session itself, I'm obviously talking about what I'm struggling with and I'm tapping on these different points in my body and I'm thinking this is a bit weird, but okay, whatever, I'll do it. And then the next thing I'm like, I'm crying like a baby and my body is responding in all these weird ways and I felt...
14:33
Like I felt the physical release of it. But the best part was actually after the session in the kind of the days and weeks that followed, I could see that something would happen where it would have usually triggered me and suddenly it didn't. And that's when I was like, oh, wow, OK, this is really the power of EFT. It's not just how it feels in the moment, it's actually how it changes.
15:02
the way you feel about something going forward and how that shifts everything. Because if you're not triggered by whatever it is, a loud noise or being too busy or anxious or whatever, then you feel differently, you respond differently. And then it becomes a lot easier to be happy because you're not living in the survival mode where you're triggered all the time. So that's where I really kind of got that
15:33
transformation where it wasn't just information that I understood. I had actually experienced it and embodied the change. My body had released some of the stuff and so it's like I was set free, which was really cool. Really cool. I can only imagine how that felt like 10 million weights being lifted off of your back. You probably felt so much lighter.
15:58
That's so incredible. So do you use tapping consistently then for yourself? 100%. I was tapping before I got on the call. Oh really, just for anything you use it anytime you feel the need or... Okay, so if you're in a space where you might not feel as joyful or you might be more in a negative space and you would use some tapping to help you clear that. Absolutely, yeah. And why do you think... You can tap on just about anything.
16:27
That's so cool. See, I was like what you initially described. Just try it and follow it along with the video once. And I was like, eh, that's okay. I'm even doing it right. And so I didn't do it anymore.
16:40
No, I was tapping with my kids the other day, actually. We had like a little tapping circle. It was quite good. I probably should have recorded it and used it for some kind of content, but I didn't. So like I said, we're moving, we're moving interstate in a couple of weeks. And I can see that my kids are getting a little bit extra emotional. And so I did a little tapping session with them.
17:05
And it was actually so beautiful. I've tapped on them before, but I haven't really incorporated the speaking into it. Because they're quite young, they're three, five, and seven. So I did this with the five and seven-year-old. And I was asking them questions. I was like, OK, so how are you feeling? And then one of them said, I'm starting to feel really worried about the move. So then we started tapping. I'm feeling really worried about the move.
17:32
And it's a bit of a call and response thing. So I tailored my language to be more fitting for my kids and just help them through that. And it was actually really great because I got some insight into what some of the things they were worried about were and what they felt would help them to feel more relaxed about the move. And by the end of it, although there's still a little bit of that
18:00
anxious slash excited energy there, some of the fear and the worry and concern wasn't as intense anymore for them. So yeah, definitely I use it with my friends, with my family, basically anyone who's willing to tap with me, I'll tap with them. That's so neat. I love that they're learning about that now. I'm such an advocate for kids learning these kinds, any kind of strategies with these kind of strategies is to help.
18:29
Relieve that anxiety and depression and anger and all those emotions that they tend to sit in because they don't have the strategies, right? So that's incredible. That's really, really incredible. What a neat experience to just be able to share with them and just teach them and hear what they have to say, right? Giving them the opportunity to just feel comfortable and open to being open and honest. That's wonderful. Exactly.
18:56
Okay, so talking about your clients, obviously tapping is probably a part of when you work with your clients, but is that, I guess, is that the main thing that you do with them? You know, the goal is to help them relieve all whatever they're feeling, that emotion, that negative energy, just kind of similar to your experience that you shared and get more into a joyful space daily, right? And so what is kind of, I know it probably varies per person, but
19:22
What do you generally do and how do you support them and really making sure that they can learn and use their own strategies by themselves to get back into joy when they need to or to release any of those negative emotions when they have them? Yeah, so I think it's really a combination of things. Something that I found quite frustrating when I was seeking somebody to support me was that there was a whole lot of, this is my program, step one, step two, step three.
19:52
Um, and it felt quite cookie cutter and I prefer a personal approach because everyone's got different baggage. So how can we think that one thing is going to help everyone? Now, having said that, there are definitely some common threads that if you cover these bases, you will get to a certain point eventually, right? I really take it on a client by client basis, depending what you need. Sometimes it's a lot of teaching.
20:21
because they don't know anything about the nervous system. They're experiencing what being in a dysregulated space is like, but they don't understand why. They just think there's something wrong with them or their life's too stressful or whatever. And so that could be teaching them about themselves. It might be getting some practices to set yourself up for success. Those basic elements that I said. So it might be looking at practical things in your life that you can shift.
20:51
or update or upgrade to support yourself better because some people start at doing the really deep inner healing work and they kind of bypass that foundational stuff, which just means that they're not going to be able to sustain and maintain. And then they get into this pattern of like on the wagon, off the wagon, on the wagon, off the wagon. So it depends what they need, what we focus on. But it's a combination of
21:20
coaching, the EFT support, and then some mentoring too. Like what can you expect? Because for a lot of people, just before they get to their biggest breakthrough that they've been working on and like calling in for such a long time, and that they're so desperate for really, often a little bit of chaos comes before the breakthrough. It's darkest before the dawn sort of a situation.
21:50
and that's when they stop. So mentoring is part of it also where I can let you know, hey, you're gonna turn this corner and when you turn the corner, there's a pothole over there, watch out for it. It's there, it's normal. You don't have to fall into it, but if you do, that's fine. You might still miss it, but just know that it's coming up, expect it, plan for it, move around it if you can, so that they don't give up before their own biggest breakthrough.
22:17
So yeah, it's a combination of all the things, depending what they need really. Mm-hmm. And letting them know that, I mean, there's always gonna be the potholes, right? So then it's what do we do with them? Yeah. Yeah. What is it like when you are working with somebody and they have that breakthrough and they're just like, ah, and you could just probably feel and see that awesome joyful energy come through. Like just, what is it like? What do they say? How do they react? How do you react? Yeah, that's totally one of my favorite parts.
22:46
So in a session, it's actually quite an honor to hold that kind of a space for someone. You know, some people are working through some really hardcore trauma and stuff like that, and it's an honor to hold them in that space and hold them in that safety so that they can look at the stuff they need to look at because that's part of how we release it, how we allow it to move through and how we move through it.
23:15
And so that part's an honor and it's really cool to see how the body responds because some people are like giggling and some people are yawning like they're going to fall asleep. Some people are crying and it might be like Oprah's ugly cry or it could be like they sound like children. It can be fascinating really because you can embody that childlike state when you go back and you work on your thing. So that's in this session.
23:44
But then it's really, for me, the really fun part is actually after the session, when I check in with them later on. Okay. So what if he noticed, how have you felt since our tap? Because did you ever watch that movie with Ashton Kutcher, the butterfly effect? I don't think I ever saw that actually. No, that's okay. So it was this movie where he could kind of go back and change something in a day.
24:12
And if he changed it, then it was he had lived out the, like how life would change after that, just by making that one small change. And I kind of think of it in that same way, because we go in and we work on this one aspect, maybe it's anxiety, or maybe it's a trauma that they had, or maybe it's like OCD or something. And we work on this one specific thing.
24:40
And then when I check in with them, it's like all these other things have changed in their life because they changed that one thing. So it has this beautiful ripple effect and it's really exciting, you know, hearing what happened for them. So that's, yeah, that's the fun part for me. That would be so fun. And I'm sure they're bewildered to even be like, wait, all this other stuff is happening, you know, which is good. Probably that they didn't expect if they were just focusing on that one. That's so awesome.
25:10
Oh my gosh, thank you for sharing all that. Thank you for doing what you do. People need this, right? So many people need this. And it's nice to know that there's people like you who are working with others and helping them just become more happy and joyful and learning how to manage all those feelings. And I think the whole nervous system thing is really fascinating. I'm gonna have to start really looking into that. Cause I do believe it is all connected. I don't think we all really think about it though, you know?
25:40
100%. It's definitely connected. Yeah, that's so cool. Um, okay. So if people are interested in learning more about you or might want to talk with you or intrigued about your services, where can they find you? Yep. So you can find me in all the usual places. I'm on Facebook, Instagram. So it's Belinda dot embodied life. Uh, you can also check out my website, which is www embodied life.
26:09
And yeah, if you wanted to check out, I've got a free wellness analysis, which basically is going to give you a snapshot of your nervous system. And that's going to highlight which areas you could have some room to improve on. And you're going to get some personalized body based exercises to help you regulate your nervous system. Oh my gosh, I want to try that. That sounds really cool. Is that on your website?
26:40
Yeah, it's on my website. It's also on socials. You'll find the links. Okay, perfect And I can put all those links in the show notes too. Just so they're in another place for people Awesome. Yeah, that's so great. Okay, one last thing maybe that you would like to leave with the listeners
26:59
So I think if I could leave anything, it would be that it's up to you. If you want to find your joy, it's up to you. And that's not from a space of like guilt and pressure and all of that, but more so of empowerment. No one can do it for you. But if you decide that you want to do it, you will find your joy. You will. And that is a mic drop.
27:28
listeners. I mean, that's said perfectly. It is so true. It's up to each individual person and every single person can find it. It's just a matter of how much they want to find it. And when you are actually living in a joyful space, you will want to continue living in that joyful space. So you'll work harder at it, right? And then eventually you probably won't have to work as hard because it's something that you're used to. So that is wonderful. That is said perfectly.
27:58
I love that. Thank you so much for this conversation. Really interesting about the tapping. I might have to take a look into that a little bit more and just check it out. It just feels kind of weird, you know, when you kind of first start doing it. It does. It does. But it's totally worth the weird.
28:17
Okay, I'm gonna remember that. It's totally worth the weird. Okay, Belinda, thank you so much for your time. I'm so grateful for that. And I'm glad we were able to have this conversation and look forward to hearing the value and what people took away from it because there's a lot in here. So, and hopefully, they reach out to you to learn more as well. Totally. Thank you so much for your time too. It's been awesome being here with you. Yes. Well, thank you. And you have a wonderful rest of your day.
28:46
Well, I hope you enjoyed that conversation with Belinda. There are so many interesting things she said about the tapping and the nervous system. And I look forward to doing a little bit more research on that. It makes sense too when you really think about it. But I have to say, out of everything she said, my favorite thing she said was, it's up to you to find your joy. And that is the honest truth 100%. You might not know how to find it. There's tons of tools out there.
29:15
She has many that she can support you with. There's all different ways to do it. It might mean that you need to reach out to somebody for support to help you find your joy, but it is up to you. We would love to hear your takeaways on this episode and what was of value to you. You can email me at lauren at dailyjoy.us, find me on Instagram, Lauren's Daily Joy, or Facebook, Lauren Goldman Raymond, and I will have all of Belinda's contact information and links in the show notes.
